New Ratings App Takes On a Chef
The app works like this: Upon signing up, users are provided with 100 stamps which they use to “stamp” restaurants, bars, films and other items that they approve of. This being social media, the ability to follow friends, and their stamps, is baked into the technology. Users access a map to see stamps nearby.
The makers of Stamped recruited high-profile tastemakers such as Mario Batali to sprinkle their own stamps through the experience, lending a little A-List oomph.
For Batali, an avid Twitter user with over 192,000 followers, signing up with Stamped was a no-brainer.
“People are always asking me (via Twitter, Facebook, etc.) for recommendations, like the best place to eat, shop, etc.” said Batali in an email to Digits.
What also attracted him as a business owner was the way Stamped works. Users only stamp things they like. There is no numerical rating system. “Stamped is all about the positive, so if your business is Stamped, you’re looking good,” he said.
