Humour and whisky are centurion's secrets
A GOOD sense of humour and the occasional drop of whisky are the key to longevity according to one Winsford man who turned 100-years-old on Saturday.
Born and bred in Winsford Harold Walker celebrated the milestone birthday with family and friends over a pint of bitter.
Originally of Park Avenue, Harold lived in Crook Lane for thirty years before moving to Overdene House in November.
During the war he served in the army repairing shoes before opening his own shoe repair shop in the Old High Street, in Winsford, where he also made clogs.
He then worked at Scallon’s shoe shop, in Middlewich, but didn’t retire until the age of 78.
He was married to wife Lily for 73 years, and had one daughter Kathleen.
Proud granddaughter Julie Brandon was there to enjoy a drink with him on his special day and said, other than the odd whisky, her grandad’s secret was his sense of humour.
She added: “We always have a good laugh together - I get one out of him every day.
