I am a diabetic patient over 15 years who has developed GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease). Its a chronic problem. I am taking medicines Diamicron for blood sugar and capsules of Omeprazole for heartburn but currently these medicines dont work as my sugar continues to be over 200. Please suggest what I should do. I have been in touch with a physician, but they did not do anything but double the
dosage.

Type 2 diabetes and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disorder) are common, chronic medical problems in adults. Diet changes and weight loss can help both conditions, so ask your physician to refer you to a registered dietitian for diet counseling.
Your diabetes medication, Diamicron (generic name, gliclazide), is not available in the United States but is very similar to medications available in the U.S. such as glyburide, glipizide and glimepiride. Sometimes, these medications (known as sulfonylureas) can upset your stomach, so you should ask your physician if an alternative medication is worth trying to control your diabetes.
