Festive Casual
I often receive invites that say "festive casual," "snappy casual" or some variation thereof. Personally, this is one of my favorite types of party-wear, as you have the chance to be comfortable while looking chic.
Festive attire doesn't mean you have to break out the reindeer sweaters or battery-powered sweatshirts, unless, of course, you want to. Festive is all about taking a classic look or color and jazzing it up for the holidays. A scarf infused with hints of holiday hues stands out from the basic - but not boring - black and cream color combo.
Sport a shirt with some sequins or add bold jewelry.
"A favorite saying of Lilly Pulitzer's is, 'Life is a party, dress like it!'" said Angie Kloote, owner of The Pink Pelican.
"Holiday parties are meant to be fun, so don a festive, feel-good outfit, slip on some gold wedges - perfect for dancing - and have a great time. Three things to keep in mind when dressing for a holiday party are fit, function and fabulous. With fit, if it doesn't fit right, you won't look your best. For function, find out the dress code beforehand and choose your outfit accordingly. And most importantly, it must be fabulous; it is a party, after all.
